Each day I reflect...
I reflect the love that I enable myself to receive from others.
I reflect on the outside, what I feel on the inside... from the way I dress to my facial expression.
I reflect the person I want to be.
In every moment of decision, I pause, so that in responding, I can reflect my highest self.

Eating philosophy
I saw Skinny Ms. on facebook post their eating philosophy and I liked it a lot:.... whole, healthy eating. That is, eating foods in their whole state or as
close to the way nature intended it as possible. We believe that because
our bodies are 100% natural, the fuel we give our bodies should be too.
In addition, they stated what they consider to be portion sizes. (Eating this size 5-6 times a day)
As a general rule of thumb, portion sizes are approximately as follows:

I'm not completely sure I CAN eat 5-6 times a day... but if I decide I need to do that, I could work on it. It takes a lot to remind myself to eat that frequently. But in any case, I think it's good to have a measuring tool for portions.

As a general rule of thumb, portion sizes are approximately as follows:
- Whole grains, whole grain pastas and single servings of fruit – 1 cupped hand
- Veggies – 2 cupped hands held together
- Meat/proteins – the size of your flat palm

Get your glow on!
Checking in. I feel so much healthier. I feel a certain inner glow. I actually FEEL it most of the time. Not always, life isn't perfect and sometimes I don't sleep enough or something else gets in my way but really, life is quite pleasant going green! :)
I haven't been posting as much lately. I think I've just been getting into a rhythm of this new leafy life. I still juice for breakfast at least 5 times a week. One day this week, I just did a juice fast all day in order to balance myself out.
Typically I try to avoid processed foods. I can't get away from it entirely (not without slaving over a stove constantly) but I've done VERY well. And when I choose processed foods, I choose organic or minimally processed for the most part. and Man am I getting my veggies in. I've had a few moments when I mindfully choose a really awesome delicious piece of cake or something. Once I treated myself to some dark organic chocolate which I ate over several days. I resist the random cookies and candy because they make me feel HORRIBLE, mentally and physically, but you MUST dip into pleasure and find treats for yourself once in a while!
Alkalizing:
I drink a whole water bottle of lemon water first thing in the morning at least 5 mornings a week. Lemon water has an alkalizing effect on the body.
I've just recently been learning about the body's ph balance and how acid/alkaline foods impact it. (PH balance: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PH). Those who know more can explain it better than I can so take a look at this website for example: http://www.naturalhealthschool.com/acid-alkaline.html.
Essentially, your body needs to be at a healthy level but in our society today we digest a LOT of acidic foods. So, if we can understand this balance, we can change what we eat in order to create a healthy, happy, blissful inner green!
Drinking Aloe
Sometimes I also take a shot of aloe in orange juice. There are many benefits to aloe including regulating the digestion system, providing vitamins and minerals to your body, reducing inflammation (which we may not notice but occurs in unhealthy bodies all the time and can breed cancer or other illnesses), and assists the immune system. I'm wondering if this wouldn't be a great cocktail for cold season!
Oil Cleansing / Natural skin treatments:
I've also been trying a new cleansing method (new to me) for my face. It's called the Oil Cleansing Method. You can get more information here: http://www.theoilcleansingmethod.com/. Basically oil absorbs oil. Instead of stripping your skin of oils, you just gently clean and replenish. Castor oil has also been known to help with breakouts. Be warned: Any time you do a deep cleaning, expect a few breakouts from the detoxification. So far, it's WONDERFUL. My skin is the healthiest it's been in a long time. I also made a facial scrub from olive oil and sugar. Easy peasy and perfect for exfoliation. :) Then I researched and purchased 100% pure argan oil. I spent $20 for 4 oz on amazon.com (there is a large range of prices out there. I think some "brand names" might be a rip off, here is the one I purchased: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0056UDXDK/ref=oh_o02_s00_i00_details). This lightweight oil moisturizes, clears breakouts, reduces spots (supposedly), is great for hair nails and skin, can help exema, has high antioxidant levels and fatty essential acids (can use on oily skin unlike many anti-aging products that are too hydrating for oily skin). Anyway, it's a good NIGHT mosturizer. It's a bit too "oily" for daytime. But the result is (thus far) very soft skin. I've just started this so I'll keep tabs on how all this is working.
Food:
I've made some delicious recipes. I'll post the links here.

Don't slow your roll.
My habits are so much better. I eat fruits, fresh veggies, baked veggies, hummus, salads, homemade soups, homemade dressings, etc. When I do splurge, it's not too bad and not too frequent. I could say of myself: I don't drink coffee or pop. I haven't had any since Jan 1st. Well, no, I did have a spiked cherry cola drink at a bar, just one. But other than that... just teas and water! I don't really miss it at all.
I don't always go to bed when I should. And I haven't ever resumed the crazy workout life I used to have 6-7 times a week at the gym. But I find I don't have the heart to make myself do things I don't like. I may never be a runner. Maybe I don't want to be.
But I am a yogi. And maybe I could swim to get in extra cardio! I think I'll try it!
I haven't lost a single pound since eating again. In fact, I gained 2 lbs back (probably water and food related). It can get frustrating but I have to not care. I have to simply enjoy this awesome body that I have.... (yes, it's not easy saying that, but I'll say it every day till I die) and enjoy the HEALTH that I receive from eating better. and if my body decides to let go of more weight... GREAT! If not, I can deal with this! :-)
I feel like when you get the healthy momentum going, you have to keep it going, keep pressing down on the peddle. Accelerating into the change of direction actually makes the change easier. Seth Godin refers to "leaning into the change". Someone mentioned that a NASCAR driver once said to them that "You can't be scared of the turns. Funny thing about turning - if you accelerate into the turn, then the car will actually corner better. The forces will suck the car down to the track and you will feel more confident going faster than you do going slow!"
So, I better not slow this roll I'm on! :)

Challenges
I'd say my "setbacks" are minor. I was tempted by sugar cookies one day, but since then I really have eaten all unprocessed foods, mainly vegetables. The only animal products I've had are some salmon, and some hard boiled eggs.
But the thing I'm concerned about is quantity of food and an old habit of eating before I eat. So, after juicing, my stomach seems to be really small. However, once I start eating, I want to eat it all. (The whole portion). So here is how this isn't working. I come home, I need to prepare dinner, but I'm hungry. So, as I'm preparing dinner, I munch on several carrots with hummus dip. Then, because I'm hungry, I prepare probably a little bit too big of portions. A whole bowl of soup and a whole bowl of salad (sometimes with a whole grain bakery bun). This is entirely too much. I was SOOOOOOOOO stuffed.
So, new method. I am going to try not to snack while I prepare my meal. A snack should be on it's own at least an hour before or after a meal. When I have a snack, I have to prepare it like a meal. No eating out of the container standing by the fridge. Take out a portion and leave.
Another method: Imagine my entire dinner in a 2-3 cup measuring cup or a large bowl (for visualizing purposes). Meaning, if I have soup and salad (use two smaller bowls). I think with two smaller bowls and no snacking that would have been a much more appropriate portion size.
I do love food. It was almost easier to operate under the juicing guidelines because I didn't have to make a choice, and the taste of the food didn't drive me past my limit. So, I just have to develop some new healthy techniques to keep me mindful and keep my tastebuds or emotional hunger from taking over.
But KUDOS to me for the quality of food I'm eating! I am a kickass green goddess!

Eating food again...
Everything is alive and more vibrant. The taste of a green bean is unexpectedly delicious. I have been back on food for a few days. I feel just fine. I have been eating mostly vegetables, and also getting in about 2 cups of juice too.
I haven't yet had a BM so I noticed the scale go up a bit. It was to be expected.
Hopefully I'll regulate and balance out.
I've eaten salads with homemade dressing, homemade potato leek soup, spicy polenta and a veggie medley, some carrots and hummus. Everything tastes so good. But I notice that I feel REALLY REALLYY full on what I used to consider a pretty small meal. But I definitely want to get back to eating around 1000- 1200 calories, because I want my metabolism to operate with efficiency.
But overall, just really enjoying making things fresh. I no longer look at food the same way. Every time I consider eating something I visualize how it was made. That really helps. Emotional food cravings are a part of my life, but I feel like my tactic of riding out the craving and telling myself I can have what I really want works well. For instance, considering a bag of M&Ms, I ask myself if I would rather have some organic dark chocolate and some almond butter. What do I REALLY want? Do I want a bag of doritos or maybe I'd prefer to have carrot chips and hummus. These things ACTUALLY taste better, but take prep to have. I can't grab those in a vending machine. Do I want pop or do I really want some lovely chocomint tea or maybe some iced green tea? Those things ACTUALLY make me FEEL better. I haven't had any soda or any m&ms, and honestly I don't feel very tempted by them right now. I'm thinking that might be one of the best benefits of the fast. (Although, a really awesome homemade chocolate cookie sounds good)
UPDATE~! DANG IT! I shouldn't have visualized that cookie! It came true, my friend brought homemade cookies and I went overboard! haha. dang sugar. Oh well, life is about balance, I'll balance it out tomorrow.

Day 15 - MADE IT!
I made it! Day 15!!!!! :)
I actually wasn't sure I'd make it 15 days.
I'm down 7 lbs.
But more importantly, I FEEL lighter and less bloaty.
I don't have morning headaches.
I don't get overwhelmingly sleepy at 2/3pm.
I've been going to bed on time during the week.
My MOOD has been something that has been impacted. It's MUCH better and more stable! (I did learn that our gut is like a brain and can make us depressed).
For dinner:
Potato Leek chickpea Soup Recipe
Ingredients
3 large leeks, cut lengthwise, separate, clean. Use only the white and pale green parts, chop
4 Cloves Garlic, peeled and chopped
1 Yellow Onion, peeled and diced
2 Tbsp butter or olive oil
2 cups water
2 cups vegetable broth
3 large red potatoes, peeled, diced into 1/2 inch pieces
1 ½ Cup Canned Chickpeas
1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
2 teaspoons chopped fresh thyme
Sea Salt
Freshly Ground Black Pepper
Method
Heat the olive oil in a large pot; add leeks, garlic, and onions with a pinch of salt. Cook the mixture until soft and translucent but not brown.
Then add the potatoes, chickpeas and continue to cook for about 2 to 3 minutes.
Add the chicken stock, bring it to the boil and simmer for about 15 to 20 minutes. Allow the soup to cool slightly before you puree it with a handheld blender. Bring the soup back to the boil and season with some salt and pepper. Serve warm.

Just before the end is always the hardest. I really am ready to eat food again.

Day 11 - Green Goddess on the Go
Today, just a brief update.
I have felt good. I enjoy my green juice. I don't feel deprived. No more weight lost though. I've lost 5 lbs and my male roomie has lost 12. Men! LOL. But all is well. I haven't had any really negative side effects for a few days (dizziness, fatigue, etc). I taught yoga tonight, then went to my book club. So, I have the energy to get through it all.
I am getting pretty ready to eat something. Temptation has nothing on me, but at the same time, I drool over pictures of food sometimes! Only 4 more days left (and the last meal of that day I'm eating some SALAD!!)

Day 10 - Me vs Beets
Beets win.
I do not like them, Sam I am. I tried my spicy V8 recipe but I put one white beet in it, I think it's VERY tasty but it has a dirty aftertaste! Blegh.
1 small beet
10 roma tomatoes
1 bunch spinach (or 1 bag baby spinach)
1/4 head cabbage
1 red bell pepper
1 green bell pepper
3 stalks celery
1/4 onion
1/2 clove garlic, or to taste
1 – 3 Kale leaves
Chili pepper or horseradish to taste
(I used 1/2 serrano pepper and 1 jalapeno)

Day 9 - Over half way there!
It's Day 9.
I'm steadfast on the journey. It seems easier knowing that there is an end in sight. Sometimes I do get a little worried about coming off the fast. The whole point is to be healthier, not crash diet. So I don't want to just go crazy. I think eating bad foods created more cravings in me. Sugar/Carbs and processed foods are so addictive. So, how can I add them back into my diet without feeling anxiety?
I think I've adequately constructed my nutrition plan for after the fast. Working within the guidelines should make a big difference.
Nutrition plan:
1 green juice or green smoothie per day
Lemon or lime water in the morning
60-70% vegetables and fruits
Next comes nuts, legumes, soy, tofu, almond milk, stevia, agave
After that, healthy low-to-no-processed grains
Then in small amounts: good fats, eggs, dairy, fish and hormone-free chicken
Then once in a while splurging.
Vitamin B12 and D (liquid forms)
So I'll be mostly vegetarian and partially vegan. HAHA.
Cooking from scratch may seem like a lot of work. Well, it is. So is juicing (you have to wash the whole juicer out every time). But what I'm learning is to live for health, to love what you are doing, to slow life down so that you are doing what is important. Sure, I could nuke a frozen pizza and have more time. But more time to do what? Sit on the couch? Why not take pleasure in making something healthy AND tasty, and ENJOY IT? Believe me, it's a hard thing to do to change your habits. But having support (people who will be healthy with you or at least cheer you on) is a terrific aide!
PS. I'm feeling fine. Not tired in the afternoons. Not AS tired in the mornings (but I'm still not a morning person!).

Day 8 - The Green Glow
Today someone told me that I'm "glowing"! hahaha.
What a wonderful compliment! I'm gonna take it in, accept it and feel proud! ALSO! Big news! When I tested my acidity levels on the first day of this journey, I was the worst possible. 4.5, extremely acidic
But today I tested around a 6.5/7, which is in the "ideal" range! That means my body is getting into a healthy zone! I'm really excited about that! ;-)
Tonight I am getting a massage!

Tonight I am getting a massage!
Day 7 - Living Mindfully
Yesterday (Saturday) was VERY low energy, some dizziness and weakness but today is much better.
I went to the gym, did 2 miles, and then got in the sauna. As I was leaving, I just felt right about the world.
Something is changing in my life. And I want to nurture this feeling, this change. I feel aware. I had a thought pop in my head today that said to me "You are vibrating with energy". I always felt like some health-crazed people were just a little too happy about eating their salad. (I've always been a fan of salad but usually with lots of dressing and not for very many meals per week). I looked at how they ate and could only see misery. Did I want to gnaw on a beet? NO WAY! Not for me! I didn't want to be restricted from the pleasures of this world! But how many times did I mindlessly gulp things down, barely tasting them, and then feel like crap afterwards?
I'm not that far into this juice fast, but I feel like I can't wait to eat a kale chip or a green bean. I am excited to make soups from scratch. I never thought I would be able to stomach, much less ENJOY a class of freshly squeezed veggie/fruit juice.
It might also be this body that is making me feel good. I do feel vibrant! (Not 100% of the time, but that's part of the juicing FAST). I feel lighter. Sometimes I even feel euphoric. I do battle with temptations, but mostly when I see something on tv and in front of me. But even with those moments of temptation, I'm not nearly as miserable as I thought I would be!

Day 6 - Cake for lunch?
Last night I had some strong cravings while watching tv. (all those pizza commercials when you've had no carbs at all! haha). Then I proceeded to sleep 9 hours! :)
Scale holding steady at 5lbs lost this morning...
1030am - YOGA groove on
1pm - Tried a new spiffy juice!
I have dubbed it:
"Carrot Cake Juice"
5-6 Carrots
2 handfuls baby spinach
2 leaves Swiss Chard
2 green apples
1/2 in Gingerroot
(Add spices after juicing)
1/4 tsp fresh ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp ground cardamon
(we also add a shot of aloe juice)
Ok, it's not quite cake, but it's pretty delicious.
~~~~
Today I have felt a bit dizzy at times, sometimes sick, and pretty weak. My body is definitely going through something. I remember having to do liquids in prep and after surgery before and I don't remember feeling sick really though. So, I do think it's a little different.
We ran by Whole Foods this evening, and I felt really too drained to explore the whole store. Though, I really like it! REALLY wish we had one up north!
Our fridge is the "greenest" I've seen it! Look at all that sunshine!
Tonight for dinner, a green smoothie:
Banana, Orange, Strawberry, Kale, lil water and crushed ice. A nice treat! Delish!
Day 5 - Friday Blues?
Nope. No blues. Was a lil tired this morning. (Didn't get to sleep until 1130 again). Up at 630.
Work had a BIG delicious cake brought in. And I smelled someone's aromatic lunch today and salivated a little. However, I'm not in a bad mood.
Drank 20 oz of Mean Green for lunch. I drink it a lil slowly. Takes a lil over an hour to finish.
Tonight is my sister's art show. I'm gonna rock it at the bar by not drinking / eating anything. I can hold out for a bit. Then, I think I'll make some gazpacho juice tonight for dinner.
I'm feeling good in my skin. The scale at home says I'm down 5lbs (without massive bowel evacuations). Some of it could be water weight I suppose but I'm drinking a lot. I don't know! We'll see how it maintains. But anyway, the goal of this endeavor isn't to just lose weight. It's to have the healthiest body I can, to FEEL good.
Tonight we tried a spicier meal for dinner:
I call it the Verde Salsa Juice:
1/2 to 1 whole fresh jalapeno
5-7 roma tomatoes
2 leaves Swiss Chard
10 Leaves Romaine
2 gloves garlic
1 lime (peeled)
1 Red bell pepper
1/4 red onion
Picante!!!! But it was nice! I enjoyed it!
Detox Stages
http://www.juicefasting.org/detox.htm
The above is a good site to explain the stages of a juicing detox.
Summerized:
Stage 1 (Day 1 To Day 2)
Headaches, dizziness, nausea, bad breath, glazed eyes and a heavily coated tongue are signs of the first stage of cleansing. Hunger can be the most intense. The heart slows and blood pressure is reduced. Glycogen is pulled from the muscle causing some weakness.
Stage 2 (Day 3 To Day 7)
The skin may become oily. The body embraces the fast and the digestive system is able to take a much-needed rest, focusing all of its energies on cleansing and healing. Mucus and bowels begin to release. White blood cell and immune system activity increases. You may feel pain in your lungs. The cleansing organs and the lungs are in the process of being repaired.
Stage 3 (Day 8 to Day 15)
On the latter part of an extended fast, you can experience enhanced energy, clear-mindedness and feel better than you have felt since childhood. Body is in full REPAIR mode, breaking down old scar tissue and attacking all unhealthy areas.
Stage 4 (Day 16 to Day 30)
The healing work of the organs is being completed. Rebuild cells. Heightened clarity and emotional balance are felt at this time. Memory and concentration improve.
Stage 5 (Breaking the Fast)
The sticky, toxic, mucoid coating on the intestinal wall is loose, and the first meal frees it from the intestinal wall.
PS: My symptoms haven't been severe at all. I've had hunger at various times. And some cravings. I've had some muscle fatigue. I've actually felt clearer and more energetic throughout the day. My mood has been realllllly good, surprisingly. I have felt kinda sick a couple times during the morning and right after hot baths. (My heart was racing after the hot bath). I was able to do 2 miles on the eliptical without feeling poor at all, just hungry afterwards.
Once you get moving...
KEEP MOVING!
I'm building my home, in this body, in this life. So, everything I do needs to support the structure and architecture I want!
So, I seek inspiration in every way. I have to keep building the momentum.
"Once you get moving, keep moving! Don't stop".
Playing my new workout song: "Sexy and I know it" by LMFAO. Play it, believe it, shake your booty.
Day 4 - Super Chick
8am - Feeling a lil tired this morning, not super charged with energy. But not miserably drained either (like I get sometimes). So, today, since I'm unfilled a bit, I finished ALL my lemon water breakfast without a problem! Even had a lil chai tea after.
10am, I'm in a groove. I feel pretty good mood-wise, able to concentrate well, and I *feel* lighter. My muscles feel a bit tired, like my arms feel just a little bit heavy.
11am. I am hungry! Bring on the liquid green gold! :-) For me the first sip is the most shocking, like I wasn't expecting the cold veggie/fruit taste. But as I sip it, the I like it more and more. I really never thought I could be someone that could handle "green juices". I thought "GROSSSSSSS". It's not cake, but it's not gross. So, I think of things that ARE gross like ugly black cancer cells or mucus-plugged intestines. Yeah, that's not pretty, but it does help to remind myself of how much healthier I will be.
Now, I'm not going to say this is the easiest, most pleasant thing ever. But I am COMMITTED!!! I look around me with new eyes. I see the sugar in the yoplait that I once thought was so healthy. I imagine all the soggy nutrient-drained things I ate from the freezer or from cans. I imagine black beans all buff and tough once, little power wrestlers. And then I see them in some "healthy" frozen meal, all zapped and limp and about as kick-ass as cardboard, lamenting their former glory!
I've got to say that the temptations haven't been that frequent nor that strong. They are like sharp short-lived pangs at specific times: When I watch someone else eat something I love, when I smell something tasty, and during the evening more. But they are definitely manageable. So, when my mind got kinda mad that it couldn't indulge in it's pleasures (some delicious delight from a box or bag), I calmed it by making a deal. I said to my brain, "yes, that THING is delish. And if you REALLY want it at the end of your fast, you can have it (maybe in healthier version). It's here, in the world, within your grasp at any time. This situation is not dire! You're ok, no need to panic."
1:47pm - HUNGRY! Over lunch, I went to the gym. The sauna was not working (booo). But I did 2 miles on the elliptical and treadmill. So, that lil bit of green juice didn't go far enough, and I have yoga tonight... so I went ahead and ran to get a V8 and a 100% fruit juice. Not fresh and organic but I need energy to last me until I can juice it fresh around 730pm!
So, that makes me realize I need to prepare a little more.
My tastebuds are ALIVE. Man, my V8 is more delish than I could have imagined. Before, I wasn't a big fan! It's crazy! I also feel like my vision is clearer! My mind is sharper! Could I have been bitten by a radioactive spider? I'm turning into Super Chick, leafy green goddess!
~~
Tried two new recipes tonight:
Green Guru Smoothie
Serves 2
1 avocado
5-8 romaine leaves
1 cucumber
1 shot aloe
1 cup coconut water
1 banana or 1-2 pears
Stevia to taste or 1 tsp agave
Straight from the Crazy Sexy Diet. A Green Guru smoothie is pretty tasty. I think in the future I will tweak this recipe to include another fruit. Jason liked his with some salt.
PAB-fab Juice
(Pear Apple Beet)
2 apples, scrubbed
1 pear, scrubbed
3 medium or 2 large beets. I scrub these well rather than peeling.
1 lemon, peeled
1 thumb tip of ginger, peeled or not, up to you.
This was a little to beet-centric for my tastes. I do think I could use beets in some other recipes. Beets have a naturally sweet flavor, but a very earthy smell and aftertaste. It's odd, but not to shabby.
Day 3 - Keepin on
Got up at 6:20am. Felt very tired, a little shaky, and no energy. Last night before bed I used the foam roller on some sore muscles so I'm not sure if that released toxins and that's why I don't feel good, or if it's just the juicing. (When you get a massage, it breaks up the lactic acid in your muscles and you are supposed to drink a lot of water after, but I didn't think about that).
Today, lemon water to start off the day. Mean green juice waiting for me for later...
I have a DR appt today to get unfilled a little (lapband). I want to be able to eat salads and drink smoothies without as much troubles. On a green diet, you can't eat tiny quantities... that's not enough calories.
Noon, I feel I have decent energy. This morning I wasn't very energetic though. I've been able to concentrate well also. But now, I'm doing quite well. There are times when I'm trying to get the juice down but get tired of trying because of my fill. Tonight should be better!
More to come later...
Later:
UNFILLED!
So, I'm slurping down my green goddess shake: mango, banana, green apple, kale, and some left over mean green juice.
Took a hot bath tonight and was kinda dizzy and shaky afterwards. But as I'm researching, I see that this is part of the detoxing effect for the first few days.
Day 2 - Clearing the cobwebs
Woke up earlier... 6:30. Had time to prepare juice and lemon water before work. Put the juice in the fridge for lunch and slowly working on my lemon water! At work, feeling a bit tired because I'm not a morning person, but at the same time I don't have a headache and I'm at least excited to have been on a roll this AM. :)
According to the scale this AM, I have dropped 4 lbs in one day. (TMI - without BM). Weird. Not sure if that's accurate. We shall see what sustains.
12:15pm - On a ROLL! Feeling VERY positive (which is surprising). Drinking my mean green juice. The first drink seems shocking to the taste buds, but the more I sip on it, the more I kinda like it.
1:45pm - Having a craving for crackers or chips (I see my boss over there with some SunChips). But I'm actually not physically hungry. (In fact, I still have a couple ounces of juice still yet to drink up).
I have felt FANTASTIC today. Clear thinking, no headaches, no mental anxiety (like you are brain-dead from the day).
For dinner, I made the following gazpacho juice:
Gazpacho Juice
4 Plum Tomatoes
1 Large Cucumber
2 Stalks Celery
1 Red Bell Pepper
1/4 small Red Onion
2 cups Parsley, leaves and stems, roughly chopped
and packed into the measuring cup
1 Lime
(after juicing, I added just a itty bitty tiny bit of apple cider vinegar for a more authentic taste).
I like this recipe a lot! I was saddened when my sister made some spicy Thai soup for dinner, but I was able to hold back. (She yelled at me.) However, that spicy Thai soup better watch it's back because as soon as I'm done with the fast, it's ass is mine!
Tested my acidity again, around 5pm (yes, that was my 2nd pee of the day, sad). It seemed to have improved from a 4.5 to a 6. That's still pretty acidic. But improved, I believe!
Day 1 - The Mean Green
Started the day off right with some lemon water. Drank about 6 ounces. I went to the gym, did 2 miles on the elliptical, then I went to the sauna for a good 15-20 minutes. Home to shower off all that detoxing. Then I ended my day with an hour ashtanga class.
And, time for my first day of green juice!
I made the Mean Green recipe from the Reboot Program:
6 Kale Leaves
1 Cucumber
4 Celery Stalks
2 Green Apples
1/2 Lemon
1 piece of ginger
So, as you can see, I'm pretty optimistic right now. I know it's going to require a few OTHER changes in order to be successful. I'm going to have to get up earlier in the morning to allow time to make juice and prep lemon water. When I'm not fasting, I'll have to plan ahead and prepare healthy meal options. I'm kind of excited about it at the moment. I know me and I know there will be less optimistic moments ahead. But, that's ok.
***End of Day check-in***
I did have a moment of wanting to eat something (in the evening) but I totally tapped into my inner green goddess and stuck with the plan! I think part of the detoxing will be "withdrawals".
Also, purchased ph balance testing strips. I'll have to keep retesting to get a really accurate reading of my acid/alkaline status. But the first test done says I'm extremely acidic. So, we shall see if that continues or improves.
I had this recipe for lunch and dinner. At lunch, I forgot the ginger. My first taste: The celery was a bit overpowering but it really wasn't bad. For dinner, I reduced the celery a bit and added a tiny bit of ginger. I do like that better. You can add a touch of stevia too (it's alkaline).
I can play with it. But really, it isn't bad tasting. Just different than what I'm used to. Part of it's appeal is envisioning the beautiful micronutrients, minerals, vitamins, enzymes, oxygen and chlorophyll (liquid sunshine) swirling around in my glass. I feel empowered with each sip I take. I am nurturing and loving my body. It's not just about my emotional tastebuds.
I am a kick-ass Wellness Warrior.
I am gearing up for tomorrow. I got my Juice Bible and Crazy Sexy Diet in the mail.
Here are some good quotes from Crazy Sexy Diet.
"... you have what it takes to become a kick-ass Wellness Warrior"
"Shitty nutrition and chemical crutches will wear you out. Stinkin' thinkin' and verbal self-abuse will amputate your angel wings."
"Do you have any idea what it's like to feel blissfully whole and comfortable in your own skin? Do you know what it's like to be centered and grounded yet filled with abundant supply of zippy energy?"
"Health is more than just the absence of disease; it is the presence of vitality."
This book is kinda blowing my mind! :)
I think I'm going to put some inspirational quotes on the fridge.
